Schwerin (dpa/mv) – More and more foreigners are completing vocational training in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. At the end of last year, their number reached 1421 – that was more than ever before in the history of the federal state. This emerges from data published by the State Statistical Office in Schwerin on Tuesday. The proportion of foreigners among all trainees in the northeast was 7.1 percent at the end.
According to the information, 545 of the foreign apprentices were women, which corresponds to a proportion of 38.4 percent. This means that the proportion of women in this group is higher than in all trainees at 33.7 percent.
The reasons for the increasing number of foreign trainees are the influx of refugees and targeted recruitment abroad. For example, young Vietnamese are being trained as nursing staff at Rostock University Medicine. The fifth year started in September. Business in the north-east is struggling to find enough applicants for their apprenticeship positions. At the end of September 1542 were unoccupied.
The list of the “Top 10” of vacant training positions in the north-east includes the professions of salesperson, cook, hotel manager, restaurant manager and retail clerk.
