The University of Barcelona is again on the sixth year between the 200 best in the world, the only Spanish one who achieves it, according to the “Ranking” of Shanghai of 2021, in which another eleven academic institutions in the country manage to position each other among the 500 best valued
of higher education.

In total, 12 centers in the country are among the 500 best located, one less than in the year 2020.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (Arwu), best known as the Shanghai Classification and the most recognized worldwide, is carried out since 2003 and updates the Jiao Tong University every year.
The campuses are ordered one by one to the number one hundred and from there they do it by blocks.

Among the indicators used to qualify annually to two thousand centers – although it only publishes the thousand best every August 15 – there is the number of students and personnel who win Nobel Awards and Fields Medals (Mathematics), the number of items published in scientific journals
and the impact of his investigations.

In 2021, Harvard University leads the World List by decimonoveno consecutive year, followed by Cambridge, the Technological Institute of Massachussets, Berkeley, Princeton, Oxford, Columbia, Caltech and Chicago.

Within Europe, the University of Paris-Saclay and the second place is first, it is for the Swiss Federal Technology Institute for the Federal Institute of Switzerland.

In Spain, only the University of Barcelona is in the fork between the 151-200 best higher education institutions in the world.

In the Strip between the 201-300 positions, the “Ranking” places the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Complutense of Madrid and the University of Granada.
In 2020 it also included the University of Valencia, but in this last edition it falls to the next fork between 301-400 best centers.

Together with that of Valencia, they share the same status the autonomous of Madrid, the Polytechnic of Valencia and the University of the Basque Country and, unlike last year, Pompeu Fabra descends on the ranking.

In this way, the Catalan Center becomes a position between the 401-500 best in the world, a classification that shares together with the Universities of Salamanca (which goes up from the 701-800 from last year’s strip), Santiago and Sevilla (
That they remain the same), and those of Oviedo (now between 701-800) and Zaragoza (now between 501-600) disappear from here.

Accompany Zaragoza in this bloc the following academic institutions: the Polytechnic of Madrid, the University of Navarra, that of Vigo and La Rovira and Virgili (Tarragona).

Complete the Spanish classification, another 22 higher education centers, in the positions ranging from 601 to 1,000.
