After drowning in a pool during a family vacation to Mauritius, a four-year-old boy in Glasgow died.
Ozair Ali was playing at the Lux Hotel in Belle-Mare with his brother, seven-year-old Ozair Ali, when his father noticed that he was having trouble breathing.
Ozair received medical attention on the spot, but was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Shahzabe Ali wrote a touching tribute to his son on Facebook.
A solicitor who lives in Glasgow wrote that he was “the sweetest, most sweetest boy in all of the world. He had the right amount of cheekiness and love. His loving personality and infectious smile would lighten up any room.
“In his 4 and 1/2 years of life, he gave us so many wonderful memories that we will treasure every day. I will carry the sadness of his passing to my grave.
“Your baba, mama, and Aydin will always remember and love you. My Ozair Babi, my little one, will be there until we meet again. Your baba is waiting for the day when we will be reunited.
According to the Mauritius Police Force, the alarm was raised around 14:00 on 28 juin.
The family arrived on the Indian Ocean island five day earlier.
A spokeswoman for Lux Belle Mare said that the hotel confirmed the death of a young visitor who was staying with his family at the time. The incident took place in the swimming pool.
“He was immediately taken from the water by the medical doctors and hotel emergency response team before paramedics arrived and rushed to Flacq Hospital.
“We were shocked to hear of his death, which took place upon his admission at the hospital.”
Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office stated: “We are supporting a family of a British boy who died in Mauritius.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.”
Before a funeral ceremony at Cumbernauld cemetery, Ozair was laid to rest on July 1, after which funeral prayers were offered.
