King Charles III, who ascended to the throne on September 8, 2022 on the death of his mother, will be crowned this Saturday at Westminster Abbey, just as Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in June 1953, one year after succeed King George VI.

Carlos III and Camila will pass through The Mall avenue, which connects the palace with the central Trafalgar Square, to also enter through Whitehall, the headquarters of the main British ministries, until they reach Parliament Square, where the abbey is located.

Carlos III of the United Kingdom and the queen consort, Camila, will also break this Saturday with the tradition of using a float that is more than 200 years old for only part of the procession and, instead, will travel in a more comfortable and modern one, as reported by Buckingham Palace.

According to the palace, the coronation religious service will begin at 11:00 a.m. local time, 12:00 p.m. in Spain and can be seen live starting on La 1 de TVE.

More than 2,200 guests, including a hundred heads of state, will attend the coronation ceremony this Saturday. The list of attendees includes members of the Royal Family as well as international representatives from 203 countries, of which around 100 are their heads of state, according to a statement.

The intention of King Carlos III has been to hold a ceremony on a smaller scale than that of the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, without losing the pomp and traditions of the British monarchy. So, there were more than 8,200 guests.

Among the guests who will attend the Coronation is the confirmed presence of the Spanish King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, as well as that of the French President, Emmanuel Macron, and that of the US President’s wife, Jill Biden. However, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, will certainly not be her most notorious absence, who will stay in California with her children.

Below we highlight the four official acts of the coronation of Carlos III:

Following the tradition, this Saturday Carlos and Camila will carry out the so-called King’s Procession, from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey.

There will begin the religious coronation ceremony officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, primate of the Anglican Church, where the crown, scepter and orb will be delivered to the King.

For the first time in history, the archbishop will urge all Britons to swear allegiance out loud to the monarch and his heirs, a call that has caused controversy.

Once the liturgy is complete, the King and Queen will return to Buckingham in the Coronation Procession in a golden coach, the same one used by Elizabeth II on the 60th anniversary of her reign.

Already in the palace, Carlos and Camila will receive the Royal Greeting by the members of the Armed Forces: the deployment by land, sea and air, will bring together more than 6,000 soldiers who will participate in the parade and pronounce three “vivas” to the king and the queen.

In the biggest military ceremonial display in 70 years, more than 60 aircraft are expected to fly over the iconic Mall promenade, and UK-deployed Navy ships will fire 21 gun salutes in honor of the sovereign.

After the military deployment, the kings, together with members of the Royal Family, will greet the thousands of people gathered outside the palace from the balcony, ending the events of that day.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to flock to central London to watch a ceremony that will be shown on giant screens across the country.

On this Sunday the Coronation Concert will be held at Windsor Castle, in which a large orchestra will participate accompanied by a selection of an eclectic group of musical stars: from Andrea Bocelli to Katy Perry, passing through Lionel Richie, Take That and classical pianist Lang Lang.

Iconic locations across the UK will also be illuminated with projections and drone displays.

Continuing with the festivities, that same day the so-called Big Lunch will take place, in which neighbors and communities are encouraged to share food and fun in their neighborhoods.

To culminate the celebrations, on Monday May 8, declared a holiday, citizens will be encouraged to participate in La Gran Ayuda, an initiative to collaborate in volunteer work in their areas of residence.
