The newest deputy for the Albany County Sheriff’s Office is young, eager and has a nose for police work.
Deputy Rice is a German shepherd.
Sheriff Craig Apple announced the pooch’s arrival in a Thursday Facebook post, writing, “Ladies and gentlemen, Sekabet meet our latest addition to our K-9 family.”
The dog is named after former Sheriff William Rice Jr., who ran the agency in the 1960s and 70s, Apple said.
The Albany County Sheriff’s Office now has seven police dogs.
