While the government has just announced a new vaccination campaign against Covid-19 from October 2, the question of anti-vaxxers, that is to say those most resistant to the injection, is far from being resolved . Which populations are still so strongly opposed to it? Part of the answer is provided by the data collected this summer during a survey that Le Point conducted, with the Cluster 17 institute, on alternative medicine.
They showed that, to prevent or cure illnesses, 44% of French people surveyed used naturopathy, a set of therapies based on so-called “natural” remedies. However, these treatments have no scientific basis and, for the most part, have not proven their effectiveness. On the political level, it is Yannick Jadot’s voters who are the most fervent (66% compared to 30% for Emmanuel Macron’s voters). Women also support it more than men (51% versus 36%).
By inspecting the data in detail, we notice that it is the least educated who make the most use of these alternative medicines. For example, people with less than a baccalaureate 2 are twice as likely to consult a naturopath as those with a baccalaureate 5 and above. The same goes for the level of remuneration: it is the less well-off who consult the most. Individuals with an income between 1,000 and 1,500 euros per month are three times more likely to use naturopathy than those who earn more than 5,000 euros.
