Electric vehicle market share is increasing rapidly. More than 160,000 electric cars were registered in 2021; this is 9.8% of France’s market. In 2018, it was 1.8%.
This would be 130 million electric cars in 2035 on a European scale. Europe has called for more public charging stations. What are our thoughts on equipment? France and equipment are compatible?
One of Europe’s largest comparison sites, Uswitch, has created a study about the best countries to buy an electric car. This study compares charging stations, charging rates, users per terminal, fast charging percentages, and the cost to charge at public terminals.
France ranks 17th among 34 countries that were screened. The Netherlands is the leader in promoting electric vehicles. Its policy includes tax incentives, subsidies and a large effort to install equipment, with 24.1 terminals every 10 km2.
According to Avere (National Association for the Development of Electric Mobility), there are 53,667 public chargers on French territory. This is an increase of 64% in one year, but we will need to add more.
According to NGO Transport and Environment (Regulation on infrastructure and alternative fuels), 257,000 terminals will be required in 2025 and 428,000 two-years later, respectively.
It is possible that the existing terminals will also work. However, 34% of users encountered an out-of service charging station by 2021 (i.e. According to another study done by AFIREV (French Association for Roaming Electric Vehicle Charging), 76% of users have encountered an out-of-service charging station in 2021.
