Bad Schussenried (dpa / lsw) – At a level crossing near Bad Schussenried (Biberach district), a regional train collided with a drunk’s car on Tuesday evening. The 37-year-old driver got stuck on the tracks with his car, but was able to get out in time and alerted the emergency services, the police said. Shortly thereafter, a regional train crashed into the vehicle and pushed the car more than 100 meters in front of it. The approximately 150 passengers on the train and the staff were therefore unharmed. The man escaped with minor injuries. According to an alcohol test, the 37-year-old had more than 1.5 per thousand.

According to witnesses, the driver had previously driven through a roundabout and later turned onto a closed district road that leads to the railway platform.

The police estimate the property damage at around 100,000 euros. According to the police, the railway line was initially closed due to salvage work. In the meantime, the railway has set up a rail replacement service. One does not assume that there will be any significant impairments in train traffic on Wednesday, said a railway spokesman on request.
