Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – For the third time this year, people in Baden-Württemberg are called upon to save electricity this Friday morning (February 24). In the period from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., power consumption should be reduced if possible, the network operator TransnetBW announced on Thursday evening in Stuttgart. Then, for example, laptops should only be used with batteries and no e-cars should be charged. But there is no risk of power cuts, it said.
The background is that too much wind energy is generated in the north. Because the grids to the south are not sufficiently developed, TransnetBW has to obtain several hundred megawatts from reserve power plants and abroad to compensate. This is called redispatch. In the end, the costs for this are passed on to the consumers.
Just two weeks ago and in mid-January there were similarly large redispatch measures, in the course of which TransnetBW called on consumers to save electricity. Users should get a message via the “StromGedacht” app: In the early morning hours on Friday between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., the app then shows “yellow” and recommends bringing power consumption forward – for example, charging batteries during this time. From 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. change the color to “orange” – then the power consumption should be reduced.
