Ludwigsburg (dpa / lsw) – The Bundesliga handball players of the SG BBM Bietigheim have lost the lead in the preliminary round group A in the Champions League. In the first premier class game after the EM break, the German champions did not get more than 25:25 (14:13) against the French club Brest Bretagne Handball in the Ludwigsburg MHP Arena on Sunday. Coach Markus Gaugisch’s team gambled away a temporary six-goal advantage in the second half.
Now with ten points, Bietigheim slipped to third place behind leaders Vipers Kristiansand from Norway and Romanian club CSM Bucuresti, who both have eleven points. In the end, the two best teams in the two groups qualify directly for the quarter-finals. Best thrower of the Bietigheimers was Kelly Dulfer with seven goals. Next Saturday (6:00 p.m.) SG BBM will play in the next Champions League game in Brest.
