Mannheim (dpa / lsw) – racism, prejudice, discrimination – the “Black Academy” in Mannheim wants to fight against this. “Black people make a significant contribution to the sustainable development of society,” said the “Black Academy” on Monday. From her point of view, however, the perspectives of these people hardly find any place in public. This is exactly what the “Black Academy” wants to change. “The aim is to make the knowledge and expertise of people who position themselves as black visible in Mannheim and worldwide and accessible to everyone.” The term “black” was deliberately chosen as a self-definition.

The “Black Academy” wants to officially start on July 15 in the castle. However, the facility has existed since 2020, founded by the associations “MeineWelt”, “Place” and “Place for Africa”. Since this year, it has been further developed in cooperation with the Center for International Cultural Education of the Goethe-Institut in Mannheim and the worldwide network of the Goethe-Institut.
