Renningen (dpa / lsw) – A driver crashed into a traffic light near Renningen (Böblingen district) and was trapped in his vehicle. The 27-year-old was seriously injured when he was taken to a hospital by a rescue helicopter, the police said on Tuesday. For reasons that have not yet been clarified, his car left the lane on Monday evening, crashed into the traffic light and, after spinning in the opposite lane, came to a standstill. The car caught fire, but was quickly extinguished by first responders.

The main road between Renningen and Leonberg and the adjacent exit to Autobahn 8 were temporarily closed. Because of the damaged traffic lights, the access and exit of the A8 is partially restricted, according to the police. Detours are in place.
