Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – On the ground floor of an apartment building in Freiburg, there was a fire in a children’s room early Tuesday morning. A resident of the house suffered minor injuries trying to put out the fire, police said. An eight-year-old child from the upper floor was therefore examined on suspicion of smoke poisoning. Neither of them had to go to the hospital. The family of four who were in the apartment when the fire broke out was reportedly able to leave the apartment unharmed.
According to the fire brigade, a mattress was on fire when the emergency services arrived in the children’s room. The fire was prevented from spreading to other rooms and the house. It was initially unclear how the fire started.
