Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The Baden-Württemberg slaughterhouses processed a tenth less meat last year than in 2021, according to a statement from the State Statistical Office on Thursday. The amount slaughtered was around 473,200 tons, plus poultry.
The state office recorded a sharp decline of 13.7 percent in beef for 2022, which corresponds to around 53,000 cattle. The slaughtered quantity thus fell to 127,200 tons of beef. In addition, the statisticians registered a decline of 8 percent in pork. Almost four million pigs (342,400 tons) were slaughtered in 2022.
The production of sheep, goat or horse meat accounted for less than one percent of meat production in Baden-Württemberg. Within the niche, lamb is the most important at 3000 tons, although here too there was a decrease of more than a tenth compared to the previous year.
