People often become smokers when they are still at school in order to be “cool”. But politicians want to prevent exactly that. A competition should help.

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – The “Be Smart – Don’t Start” competition for smoke-free school classes will start a new round on Monday. Classes in levels six to eight can win prizes if they remain smoke-free by April 28, according to the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Health. “The fewer young people who start smoking, the greater the health benefit for all of us,” said Health Minister Manne Lucha (Greens). His ministry organizes the competition. Minister of Education Theresa Schopper (Greens) said: “The goal of staying smoke-free as a class also strengthens the class community and the feeling of togetherness.”

The competition takes place this year under the motto “

All successful classes then take part in the nationwide prize draw, in which up to 5,000 euros are raffled off. The competition has been held for years and is intended to promote prevention and education.
