Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The public prosecutor’s office in Stuttgart has closed the investigation against an officer who had started the process of the suspended inspector of the Baden-Württemberg police. A spokesman for the prosecution said on Tuesday that the woman did not act unlawfully on the basis of a justifying emergency. The detective was accused of having recorded an unauthorized video call with the inspector. First, the “Südkurier” had reported about it.
“The recording of the conversation with the inspector of the police of the state of Baden-Württemberg was an appropriate and proportionate measure to counter the ongoing risk of being pressured by him into a sexual relationship by bringing about criminal and disciplinary proceedings against him.” , said the prosecutor. The former highest-ranking police officer, who was released from duty, lodged a complaint with the Stuttgart Public Prosecutor’s Office against the hiring order.
Only a few days ago, the Stuttgart district court had admitted the charge against the man for sexual assault. This is how the process is done for him. The police officer denies the allegations.
According to the investigation, he is said to have sexually harassed a police officer in Stuttgart about a year ago – in return for career advantages. According to earlier information, the public prosecutor’s office accuses him of “knowingly exploiting the fact that, due to his professional position, he was able to cause the police officer considerable professional disadvantages in the event of resistance”.
His lawyer Jens Rabe had announced that he would fight for an acquittal. It is regrettable that the public prosecutor’s office brought charges at all “with this evidence situation”.
Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) has also been under pressure because of the matter for a long time – according to his own statements, he had passed on a letter from the inspector’s lawyer to a journalist. A committee of inquiry in the state parliament examines sexual harassment by the police as well as the practice of promotion and Strobl’s actions.
