Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The high number of corona patients and failures at the German Red Cross is also slowing down the rescue service in Baden-Württemberg. “Despite all protective measures, the number of corona infections among employees is increasing day by day,” warned the DRK state association in Stuttgart on Friday. The working staff is at the limit. “This temporarily jeopardizes the nationwide provision of a fast rescue service,” said a DRK spokesman.

The problem is getting worse because the staff situation in the clinics is tense and many hospitals have already imposed admission freezes. “The deployment times are longer if the next suitable hospital is not ready to accept them,” said Birgit Wiloth-Sacherer, state manager of the DRK state association Badisches Rotes Kreuz.

Of course, there is still an ambulance in every emergency, emphasized Marcus Schauer, head of the rescue service team at the DRK in Baden-Württemberg. However, patients have to be expected to wait longer in individual cases.

The country had actually planned to reduce the response time in the emergency services from a maximum of 15 to 12 minutes. So far, the Rescue Service Act stipulates that no more than 10 minutes, but no more than 15 minutes, may elapse between receipt of the emergency report and arrival at the scene of the emergency.
