Bad Mergentheim (dpa / lsw) – Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) should intervene in the quarrels about two CDU cabinet members from the point of view of FDP country chief Michael Theurer. “The state government needs a fresh start at this point,” said Theurer on Saturday at a small party conference in Bad Mergentheim (Main-Tauber district) with a view to Interior Minister Thomas Strobl and Justice Minister Marion Gentges. The non-action of the head of government in these cases shows that the Greens have lost any claim to be a party based on the rule of law.
Gentges is at odds with the Presidential Council of the Higher Regional Court in Stuttgart over the successor to President Cornelia Horz and wants the balance of power to be clarified in court. The public prosecutor’s office is investigating Strobl because he passed on a lawyer’s letter to a journalist in connection with investigations into sexual harassment of the highest-ranking police officer in the country.
In the past, other politicians have resigned because of minor allegations, Theurer said. “I never dreamed that Boris Johnson would resign and Strobl would still be in office,” said the Liberal, referring to the British Prime Minister, who announced his resignation as leader of the British Conservative Party on Thursday.
Otherwise, practically nothing is heard from the CDU in the green-black state government, said Theurer. They do not correct the policy of the Greens on points that the Christian Democrats once stood for. Instead, he experiences a CDU that is deep in scandals.
