Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – According to industry companies, too few apartments are being built in the southwest. “Many new construction projects are not tackled because of the uncertain future prospects,” said the regional managing director of the industry association of independent real estate and housing companies (BFW), Gerald Lipka, on Monday in Stuttgart.
According to Lipka, around 54,700 apartments were approved last year – more than in the first year of the pandemic, 2020. But fewer and fewer of the approved apartments are actually being built. In the first three months of the current year there was a slump in building permits compared to the same period last year.
“The signs of a significant downturn in residential construction are increasing and were already evident in 2021,” said Lipka. “They have drastically worsened due to supply bottlenecks and the Ukraine war.” Politicians must ensure that housing construction does not become even more expensive.
In the Baden-Württemberg state association of the BFW, mostly companies are organized that build new apartments. The members include the Epple Group, Fermo Massivhaus AG and Wüstenrot Haus- und Staedtebau GmbH.
