Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Despite the energy crisis, there will again be a Ferris wheel in the main courtyard of the New Palace in Stuttgart during Advent – at least as long as the situation does not worsen. The ice rink, on the other hand, will not be built this year, Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz (Greens) told the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Tuesday). The ministry is based in the New Palace.
The organizers of the ice rink are primarily concerned that the operation will not be worthwhile in winter due to possible further corona restrictions, a ministry spokesman said on Tuesday. Another ride is to be set up in place of the ice rink.
“The Ferris wheel should be a sign of hope and confidence. However, it is also clear that we will have to stop operations if there is an acute energy shortage,” said Mayor Frank Nopper (CDU) on Tuesday. According to the city, the “highlights” – illuminated figures that were otherwise on the Schlossplatz – will not be set up this year.
In order to continue to save energy, the state capital has also dispensed with the advent calendar with illuminated windows at the town hall. However, there are said to be three illuminated Christmas trees downtown.
