Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) – Because of repeated undeclared work, customs issued fines of more than 115,000 euros against the managing director of an Asian restaurant chain. The man accepted the penalties and paid them off in installments, as a spokeswoman for the main customs office in Karlsruhe said on Friday.
The 39-year-old had been conspicuous in several cases in the past. Among other things, there was an inspection in June 2018. Several employees tried to flee. But two could be found. It turned out that the two men did not have a work permit for Germany. Together with three other illegally employed workers, they lived and slept in the dirty basement of the Karlsruhe restaurant, as the main customs office further announced.
Further checks also revealed violations of the law.
