Schramberg/Rottweil (dpa/lsw) – In decorated wooden tubs, dozens of jester teams descended the Schiltach river on Shrove Monday in Schramberg (Rottweil district). Thousands of spectators cheered on the participants of the traditional “Da-Bach-na-Fahrt” in the Black Forest town. According to the Schramberg fools’ guild, 40 teams had registered for the spectacle. Wet feet were guaranteed for many.
The trip down the stream is one of the highlights of the Swabian-Alemannic carnival. Because of the corona pandemic, the tradition had been canceled in the past two years.
In Rottweil, around 20 kilometers away, the fools had heralded Shrove Monday with their traditional street parade. Thousands of jesters and visitors also gathered in other cities such as Ravensburg on Shrove Monday to celebrate the hot phase of the “fifth season”.
