Senftenberg (dpa / lsw) – The longtime director at the Württembergische Landesbühne Esslingen, Manuel Soubeyrand, is dead. The director and actor died on Boxing Day at the age of 65. This was announced by the new stage in Senftenberg on Wednesday. Soubeyrand was director of the Senftenberg Theater from 2014 to 2022. He had previously worked in Esslingen for ten years. He lived there with his Swiss wife until 2014 and became the father of three daughters.
Soubeyrand was born in Cologne in 1957 and was the foster son of the poet and songwriter Wolf Biermann. His mother had moved to what was then the GDR with him as a small child and had lived with Biermann in East Berlin. Soubeyrand later studied at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. From 1980 to 1996 the mime played at the Berliner Ensemble. Since 1993 he has worked as a freelance director. He has penned around 70 productions.
