Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – From May 1st, women will have to pay more for the Freiburg women’s night taxi. Due to cost increases, the tariff will rise to ten euros from the previous seven euros, the municipal council decided on Tuesday in Freiburg. A reduced rate of seven euros will apply to students and other user groups in the future.

To make women feel safer on buses and trains, some transit companies and cities in the southwest have introduced night taxis for women. In Freiburg, the transport service is part of the concept for protecting public spaces from violence and crimes against sexual self-determination. “It’s a really great institution that we have here,” said Mayor Martin Horn (independent).

The fare for the taxi is a personal contribution, the remaining costs are covered by the city. Their subsidies are rising sharply, as the offer is well used. The city saw a need for action, since the taxi tariffs in the Black Forest metropolis will also generally be raised on May 1st.

In Freiburg, the usage times for the women’s night taxi will be limited to 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. (previously 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.). The trips are only possible in the city area.
