Fatigue Syndrome is considered to be one of the most common symptoms of Long Covid. But it is little researched and little known. This can lead to misdiagnosis. This is now to be remedied.

Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – The Villingen Institute of Public Health research center will receive 30,000 euros from the state for a study to research chronic fatigue syndrome, which can occur, for example, as a result of a corona infection.

Because the disease is hardly known and is often misdiagnosed, the Villingen project manager Lotte Habermann-Horstmeier wants to create recommendations for medical practices with the Berlin Charité. This was announced by the Greens in the Stuttgart state parliament, who had campaigned for funding during the budget negotiations.

Although this disease has been known for a long time, it receives too little attention in politics, care and research, explained the health policy spokeswoman for the parliamentary group, Petra Krebs. It is a very devastating disease for those affected and their families.

It is not uncommon for patients to be prescribed exercise therapy or rehabilitation as a result of an incorrect diagnosis. As a result, they often felt that they were not being taken seriously.

Fatigue is one of the most common symptoms of Long Covid – i.e. complaints that persist for more than four weeks after a corona infection. Affected people suffer from extreme exhaustion. From the point of view of doctors, this can even worsen after physical exertion. According to physicians, more should be invested in research into Long Covid and its treatment in Germany.

The study is only about Corona, which the state of Baden-Württemberg supports. Among other things, it also supports research on the long-term consequences of a corona infection and autopsies of vaccine and corona deaths with almost 13 million euros.
