Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The Green Youth rejects a partial privatization of the electricity network operator Transnet. This would be the wrong decision, said CO country chief Aya Krkoutli of the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Friday). She recalled the federal election program of the Greens. In it, the Greens had declared that they wanted to “increase the state shares in the four transmission system operators in Germany”. The Greens state government in Baden-Württemberg is opposed to this.
“The partial privatization is not in the interest of the country,” explained CO country chief Elly Reich. The Green Youth argues that the climate goals could be achieved more quickly if the country had shares in Transnet. Krkoutli warned that the price of electricity should not rise as a result of the transaction. “That would be fatal in the current situation, that must not happen.” Partial privatization is also controversial within the green-black coalition. The CDU has expressed doubts about the plans.
EnBW plans to sell 49.9 percent to Transnet BW. One half is to go to the state-owned KfW bank, for the other half EnBW started a bidding process. Transnet’s extra-high voltage grid, which is more than 3,000 kilometers long, is one of four transmission grids in Germany. Wind power is to be transported from the north to the south of the republic on these electricity highways. Savings Bank President Peter Schneider had confirmed his association’s interest in a share in the electricity network operator Transnet BW.
