Heidenheim (dpa / lsw) – 1. FC Heidenheim wants to take another step towards promotion to the Bundesliga at the weekend. Because SV Darmstadt 98 and Hamburger SV will take points away from each other in the top game of the 2nd Bundesliga, FCH can benefit from being third in the table. This requires a win in the away game at Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / Sky) – but FCH coach Frank Schmidt did not want to talk specifically about promotion again on Friday.

“I said last week that we want to defend third place. I would be stupid if I didn’t say that anymore,” said the 49-year-old. “The team gives answers week after week as to what their ambitions are.” Schmidt also did not want to talk specifically about the top game between leaders Darmstadt and HSV.

Instead, he commented on Arminia, which is surprisingly fighting against falling into the 3rd division. “If someone had said before the season that they had so few points at that point, nobody would have believed it,” said Schmidt. “But if you look at the squad, there’s still a lot of quality there.”
