Zurich (dpa/lsw) – Swiss ski destinations are expecting a successful winter 2022/23. Despite rising prices, tourists are likely to flock to the Swiss mountains again, according to several tourism agencies. The Corona crisis literally seems to be yesterday’s news.

In Valais, for example, the current booking status not only gives reason to hope for a better winter season than last year, but also in comparison to the pre-Corona winter of 2019. “Guests can look forward to an unrestricted winter experience again,” said Valais Tourism to the news Agency AWP.

The foreign guests make the difference. While in the previous year the increasing number of Swiss people who stayed at home again ensured a strong winter season, tourists from Germany and other countries are now making the pandemic forget.

According to Switzerland Tourism, Swiss mountain destinations are hoping for 1.5 percent more overnight stays than in winter 2021/22 and 1 percent more than in the pre-pandemic winter of 2018/19. The plus is based primarily on the expected increase in foreign guests of 18 percent.

At the same time, holidays in Switzerland are likely to become significantly more expensive. But the inflation that is spreading globally is hardly able to slow down the euphoria of the ski resorts. “Inflation has practically no effect on Swiss winter tourism,” said the Swiss Tourism Association.

According to the tourism association, mountain railways and the hotel industry expect price increases of up to five percent, and in the hotel industry even ten percent. And according to a survey in Graubünden, overnight prices have risen by a good six percent compared to winter 2019/20.
