Pforzheim (dpa / lsw) – According to the police, incorrectly disposed of batteries caused a fire with damage in the millions in a Pforzheim disposal company. The investigations did not bring any evidence of arson or a technical fault, the police said on Thursday. If lithium-ion batteries were damaged, chemical reactions could suddenly lead to extreme heat and the outbreak of a fire.
Around 40 tons of waste, mainly paper and wood, caught fire in the fire on Tuesday. A warehouse burned down. According to the fire brigade, it was on duty for around twelve hours from Tuesday afternoon. The post-extinguishing work lasted until Wednesday morning. The police estimated the damage on Thursday at around eight million euros.
On July 28, another warehouse on the site burned down completely. At that time, several press machines and vehicles were destroyed – according to the police, there was damage of around five million euros.
