When called upon, a doctor is said to have issued thousands of certificates to be exempt from the mask requirement and made a lot of money with it. The Weinheim district court wants to close the case. The defense could throw a spanner in the works for the judges.
Weinheim (dpa / lsw) – In one of the largest processes for false mask certificates, the pleas and a judgment are expected today. A 59-year-old resident doctor has to answer to the Weinheim District Court, who is said to have certified the exemption from the mask requirement for medical reasons in more than 4,300 cases without ever seeing, let alone examining, those affected.
The 47-year-old employee of the doctor is also in the dock for aiding and abetting. According to the indictment, the latter had received 28,000 euros for issuing the false health certificates, which the public prosecutor said should be confiscated.
According to the prosecution, the background is the political attitude of the accused from Weinheim (Rhein-Neckar district). In particular, the accused had repeatedly spoken out publicly at demonstrations and on the YouTube video platform against the obligation to wear a face mask. Issuing incorrect health certificates is punishable by imprisonment of up to two years or a fine.
It is not yet clear whether the Weinheim trial can really be ended on Monday. The hearing has already been postponed twice at the request of the defense. For the last date on December 12, the defense attorneys claimed that they were unable to stand trial and submitted certificates later.
