Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Baden-Württemberg’s Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) is putting pressure on so that the re-elected Mayor of Tübingen, Boris Palmer, will soon become a full member of the Greens again. Palmer should be “quickly accepted into the party with full membership rights,” said Kretschmann on Tuesday evening on the ARD program “Maischberger”. Palmer’s membership in the Greens is suspended because of arguments about breaking taboos and allegations of racism.
After the mayoral election in the university town, the 74-year-old Prime Minister said he was happy for Palmer, who ran as an independent. “I’m friends with him.” The 50-year-old Palmer recently said he would like to be an active member of the Greens again. He could not ask for anything because it had been agreed that his membership should be suspended until the end of 2023.
The state chairmen plan to meet with Palmer in the near future. However, on the left wing to the south-west there is resistance to a more rapid rapprochement.
