The pressure on the municipalities to accommodate refugees is growing. In Lörrach, tenants should leave 1950s apartments to create more space for those arriving. Are the people from Lörrach playing along?

Lörrach (dpa / lsw) – The Mayor of Lörrach, Jörg Lutz (independent) wants to comment today (12.00 p.m.) on the planned evictions to create a refugee home. The managing director of Wohnbau Lörrach, Thomas Nostadt, should also have his say at the short-term press conference, as the city announced.

At the beginning of the week it became known that around 40 tenants were to move out of a residential complex to make room for refugees. It was said that the municipal housing company should offer tenants more modern and affordable housing. The announcement sparked debates on social networks and comments from state and federal parliamentarians.

The buildings are said to be apartments from the 1950s. It had been planned anyway to demolish and rebuild it in the coming years because of its condition, it said. The affected tenants are to be informed on February 27 at a residents’ meeting.
