Tübingen (dpa / lsw) – The judiciary has taken a 54-year-old into custody because he is said to have attacked a police officer with a knife and injured his neck. The suspect is charged with attempted homicide. The public prosecutor’s office in Tübingen and the police headquarters in Reutlingen announced on Saturday that he had already been convicted of violent crimes.
The attack reportedly happened on Friday evening in the municipality of Ofterdingen, south of Tübingen. The police had been alerted by relatives of the suspect. The man without a permanent address had therefore appeared and threatened relatives.
During the police check on the spot, the 54-year-old is said to have tried to flee on foot. He then pulled a knife and injured the officer. The suspect is said to have threatened the 27-year-old officer with death. The attacker was then arrested, while the officers also used pepper spray.
The police officer was taken to hospital with a stab wound to the neck. “Only through fortunate circumstances and the protective effect of the outer clothing and the protective vest worn was it a superficial stab wound that could be treated on an outpatient basis,” said the investigators.
