Illerkirchberg (dpa / lsw) – A week after the violent crime against two girls in Illerkirchberg near Ulm, the affected community is still looking for the right way to deal with the crime and its consequences from the perspective of its mayor. “It is still too early at this point to be able to say what the right way is,” said Markus Häußler of the “Schwäbische Post” (Monday). There was a first meeting in the church in order to be able to exchange ideas in a protected setting. “That’s the important thing, that you just talk about it and that it isn’t exploited. That a factual, quiet exchange is possible,” said the mayor.

The consequences for the community are still immense: “The community is still in shock,” said Häußler. “Public life stands still.”

On December 5, a man from Eritrea is said to have attacked two girls on their way to school in Illerkirchberg, injuring them so badly that a 14-year-old died. The second girl, 13 years old, was believed to have been seriously injured with a knife. Arrest warrants for murder and attempted murder have been issued against the 27-year-old suspect. According to the public prosecutor’s office, he is in a prison hospital and is silent on the allegations.

The majority of people in Illerkirchberg are against general suspicion and violence, said Häußler. “It was the perpetrator and this perpetrator must be punished with all consequences.”
