Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Sports director Kim Oszvald-Renkema is going into the new season with ambition, but doesn’t want to put too much pressure on the volleyball players at MTV Allianz Stuttgart. “It would be unfair to say to the team that you now have to win every title every year in order to have a good season,” said the 35-year-old of the German Press Agency: “That’s not realistic in volleyball. Luckily we don’t have it a situation like in football, where FC Bayern Munich is always ahead.”

Last season, the Stuttgart women won the German championship for the second time after 2019 and also won the DVV Cup. “We don’t go in with the goal that we now have to win a double every year to be satisfied,” said Renkema: “Of course we want to attack a title again and possibly win one too.”

On Friday (7 p.m.) the team will start the Bundesliga season against VfB Suhl. On Tuesday (5:15 p.m.) the women from Stuttgart will play runners-up SC Potsdam in the Porsche Arena for the Supercup. “The event itself is a great success for us. We sold out. It’s a highlight for the players to be able to play in front of more than 5,000 people in Stuttgart,” said Oszvald-Renkema.

The sports director is very happy with coach Tore Aleksandersen, the Norwegian’s contract expires at the end of the season. “He’s doing an excellent job. We actually always talk about the plans in December or January. From our side, we can also imagine working with him for a longer period of time,” said Oszvald-Renkema.
