Konstanz (dpa/lsw) – According to the President of the Baden-Württemberg Municipal Council, the municipalities in the south-west cannot fulfill all the tasks assigned to them. “The level of public performance promises has not been compatible with what the performance is for a long time,” President Steffen Jäger told the “Südkurier” in Constance (Friday). “We have to set priorities and put other tasks to the test.”
As examples, Jäger cited the provision of daycare places and the right to all-day care in elementary school from 2026. “The skilled labor market has been swept empty,” said Jäger. The planned entitlement to all-day care in elementary school must “therefore be discussed again”.
In addition, the community day has asked the state to soften the limits for the sizes of daycare groups. Otherwise, many thousands of children would have to be told that there was no or no need-based offer for them, said Jäger. So far, however, the country has refused.
