Because letters in municipalities on Lake Constance arrive too late, the mayors have got together and written a letter of complaint to the responsible federal ministry.
Konstanz (dpa / lsw) – Municipalities in the district of Konstanz have complained to the Federal Ministry of Economics about Deutsche Post. Letters in the region have only arrived irregularly since May, said the mayor of the municipality of Hilzingen, Holger Mayer (independent), on Wednesday. All previous attempts to communicate with Deutsche Post and the Federal Network Agency have been dismissed with standard answers. “They argued that there was a lack of staff and corona infections.” The SWR had previously confessed about it.
It’s been like this for half a year now, Mayer said. Half the county is affected. You don’t want to do “post-bashing”, but: “At some point you should present concrete solutions on how you want to get the problem under control.” The municipalities fear that not only bills will be delivered too late, but also election documents. The mayoral elections in Gaienhofen are coming up soon. “Of course, the question arises as to what happens if the voting documents do not reach the people on time.”
Upon request, Deutsche Post again referred to staff shortages and corona infections. “Unfortunately, we have to admit that there are problems, especially in mail delivery, in some regions of Baden-Württemberg,” said a spokeswoman. In order to avoid longer failures, letters in particularly affected areas would only be delivered every second working day. Extensive recruiting measures for more staff have been initiated.
