Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – “lateral thinking” initiator Michael Ballweg remains in custody after more than half a year. The Stuttgart Higher Regional Court ordered the continuation, as a spokeswoman announced on Tuesday. According to the current facts and evidence, the accused is still strongly suspected of attempted commercial fraud and money laundering if there is a risk of absconding. Since the arrest on June 29 last year, the public prosecutor’s office has “consistently conducted the investigations with the necessary acceleration”.

Ballweg’s lawyers had repeatedly insisted in vain on an end to the pre-trial detention and most recently argued that the continuation beyond six months was only possible in exceptional cases according to the Code of Criminal Procedure. From their point of view, the strict requirements for this were not met.
