Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Ongoing strikes in rail traffic also caused delays and train cancellations on Monday. The strongest effects can be felt in Stuttgart, said a spokesman for the Southwest German State Transport Company (SWEG) on Monday. There are also restrictions in Freiburg. The spokesman reported train cancellations. Passengers should inform themselves electronically before starting their journey. All lines are affected, said a spokeswoman for SWEG Bahn Stuttgart, a subsidiary of SWEG.
The walkouts began on Saturday afternoon. The train drivers’ union GDL did not want to announce on Monday morning how long the strikes should last. The background is a collective bargaining conflict in which the GDL, according to its own statements, would like to negotiate a collective agreement for the more than 500 railway workers not only for the former Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg (today SBS), but for the entire SWEG group. The group has a total of 1800 employees.
The SWEG rejects this and does not want to take over the SBS permanently. The Abellio daughter got into financial difficulties at the end of 2021. The company then took over the state-owned SWEG for an initial period of two years.
