Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – In view of the war, crises and price increases, CDU faction leader Manuel Hagel has called for more cost-effective variants of the Stuttgart opera house to be renovated. “We have to act responsibly,” Hagel told the German Press Agency on Tuesday. “In concrete terms, that means asking ourselves the question of whether the previously estimated costs of well over a billion euros are appropriate in a time of record inflation, the raw materials crisis and moderate financial policy.” The decision is carefully weighed – it can only be made on the basis of reliable data, facts and alternatives. “We therefore first need an up-to-date cost estimate and the in-depth examination of more cost-effective variants. That is the basis for every decision.”
The CDU parliamentary group stands “with complete conviction for top culture made in Baden-Württemberg,” emphasized Hagel at the same time. “Opera, ballet and theater belong in Stuttgart like the television tower. We are proud of the cultural workers in our state theaters of international standing.”
