Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) – With the best weather and in front of tens of thousands of spectators, the open-air festival “Das Fest” started in Karlsruhe on Thursday evening. Singer-songwriter Lotte played first, followed by pop musician Alice Merton, on the main stage of the Günther-Klotz-Anlage called Mount Klotz. As the main act, the Berlin band Seeed rocked the stage with their singer Peter Fox. By the end of the festival on July 24, Jan Delay and the electro-pop musicians Mia, among others, are also expected.
“The Festival” extends for the first time over four days and lasts until this Sunday. It had been canceled in the two previous years because of the corona pandemic. Around 260,000 people attended the festival in 2019; around 200,000 visitors are expected this time. 35,000 tickets were sold for Thursday alone.
“The festival”, which has been taking place since 1985, is said to be the largest family festival in southern Germany. The organizers have made it their mission to cater equally to all age groups, including children and families. In addition to the music acts in the hill area, which is subject to a fee, there are also numerous free cultural performances and sports activities.
