Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The Green-led State Ministry has contradicted Migration Minister Marion Gentges (CDU) in the discussion about the new federal admission program for particularly vulnerable Afghans. In a letter to Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD), the CDU politician explained that, given the tense refugee situation in Germany, it was not “responsible” to also take in people from Afghanistan via a special program. Florian Hassler, State Secretary in the State Ministry, said on Thursday when asked by the German Press Agency that Germany had a special humanitarian obligation here. “That’s why I support the federal government in its efforts,” said Hassler.

The Secretary of State recognized the achievements of cities and towns in hosting more than 160,000 people this year, most of them from Ukraine. “This high number of refugees brings many municipalities to the brink of what they are able to do,” said Hassler. At the same time, the accommodation was “worked well together”.

The federal program provides for the admission of 1000 people and is aimed at the special group of those who have campaigned for democracy, human rights and women’s rights. “These people bravely stood up for our Western values ??and are therefore particularly threatened by Taliban terror,” said Hassler. Germany has “a special humanitarian duty here,” similar to the people who supported the dangerous work of the German armed forces as local workers in Afghanistan.
