Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Baden-Württemberg does not invest all the funds made available to the state by the federal government for local rail transport in the year in question. The ministry confirmed a report by the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” (Saturday), which is based on a response from State Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) to a request from the FDP parliamentary group. According to this, the state had not spent more than 258 million euros from the federal regionalization funds at the end of 2020.
“That’s completely normal, because you have to plan for the future,” explained a ministry spokesman. Other countries would also form such remainders of expenditure. The local transport expansion works according to cycles. The upholstery would gradually be used for expansion projects. “They are urgently needed in order to be able to finance local transport in the future. As a result, we will have too little money in the coming years,” said the spokesman in view of the planned expansion of the offer.
According to the newspaper, the federal government had transferred 1.04 billion euros in regionalization funds to the state in 2021. The conference of transport ministers recently asked the federal government to increase this grant by 1.5 billion euros every year until 2030.
