Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – A few weeks before the start of the new training year in September, there are still numerous vacant training places in Baden-Württemberg. Economics Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU) announced on Thursday in Stuttgart after a top-level meeting that more than 38,000 and thus a good half of the reported training positions are still vacant. The chances for young people to find an apprenticeship on the spur of the moment are excellent.
The number of applicants for an apprenticeship has declined in the past. Against this background, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Education have launched an initiative in recent weeks to strengthen professional orientation. Among other things, an online platform for arranging internships was launched. At the same time, a campaign was launched in the social networks, which should also address parents, because they are one of the most important advisors when choosing a career.
Minister of Education Theresia Schopper (Greens) said that due to the corona pandemic, professional orientation could not take place as usual in the past school years. The President of the IHK Region Stuttgart, Marjoke Breuning, emphasized that it was clear that career orientation had to be at the top of the political agenda. The head of the regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency, Christian Rauch, referred to the careers advice service. And the internship week offered is a great opportunity to get a taste of many professions in a short time. DGB Vice President Maren Diebel-Ebers called on companies to train more. “Tomorrow’s specialists are only bound to those who offer young people good starting conditions in working life.”
