Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Due to a pilot strike, more than every second Eurowings flight at Stuttgart Airport is canceled on Thursday. An airport spokeswoman announced on Wednesday that 54 of the 86 planned take-offs and landings with Eurowings flights were canceled. The other 32 stayed on schedule. As a result, it can be expected that the terminal will be quieter than usual – the passengers concerned have either been rebooked or have received train tickets.
According to a spokeswoman, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport is also affected by the strike: The only Eurowings flight on Thursday towards Mallorca is cancelled. The Bodensee-Airport in Friedrichshafen, on the other hand, is not served by Eurowings.
The pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit announced on Tuesday that the negotiations on the general wage agreement at the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings had failed and then called for an all-day strike. Eurowings criticized this as disproportionate and irresponsible. According to the airline, only flights from Eurowings Germany are being struck, not those from Eurowings Europe.
The VC is concerned with the conflict about better working conditions. A central requirement is the relief of employees, for example by reducing the maximum flight duty times and increasing rest times. Eurowings personnel manager Kai Duve called the demands “in times when millions of people are afraid of a cold winter and the next heating bill” excessive and dangerous for the future viability of flight operations and jobs.
