Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The Baden-Württemberg CDU leader Thomas Strobl has called for an early energy summit at federal level in order to prepare for the impending gas shortage situation. “I have little understanding that Chancellor Scholz does not do this immediately after his vacation,” said the state interior minister on Friday in the summer interview with SWR aktuell. “That would be urgently needed so that we have a clear plan for all of Germany and a coordinated concept for how we can get through this possibly very cold and very difficult winter.”

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) should take Baden-Württemberg as an example, where the green-black state government had already held a top meeting with municipalities, business and utilities on Monday. The situation is “very serious” because of the throttling of Russian gas supplies, said Strobl. But he is confident that the southwest will get through a crisis situation well. “If anyone can do that, it’s us in the south of Germany,” he said. Because of the impending energy shortage in winter, the south-west CDU has been pushing for slightly longer operating times for the three remaining nuclear power plants in Germany.
