Göppingen (dpa / lsw) – Due to slippery conditions, a car fell off the road near Göppingen and caused an emergency braking of an ICE. The car damaged the track bed on Monday evening, whereupon the ICE 611 came to a standstill on the way from Stuttgart to Munich, as a railway spokesman told the German Press Agency when asked. People were not harmed, as the train staff told a dpa reporter.
The ICE was able to continue its journey after about 90 minutes. Previously, it had to be checked whether the track bed had been severely damaged. An emergency manager from Deutsche Bahn then gave the okay to continue towards Ulm. The following trains were guided past the scene of the accident on the opposite track.
The new line between Wendlingen and Ulm had previously caused problems. A defective switch near Wendlingen had to be repaired. The route was only released again later Monday afternoon, said a railway spokeswoman. It was a manufacturer error in an electronic component of the new switch. Some long-distance trains from Stuttgart to Ulm were diverted to the old, slower route and were delayed. There had already been problems on Sunday.
