Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Freiburg’s coach Christian Streich has left his plans for the replacement of long-running favorite Christian Günter open. The 57-year-old has already decided who will represent the left-back against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday (3:30 p.m. / DAZN). The coach of the Baden Bundesliga club did not want to reveal that on Friday.
Possibly one of the right-backs, Lukas Kübler or Kiliann Sildillia, will switch to the opposite side, he just said. However, it will be more important that the team appear “just as dogged, with hunger and attitude” as they did in the recent away win in Bochum.
After seeing the fifth yellow card in Bochum, captain Günter will be absent from SC for the first time since February 2019. This ends Günter’s impressive series of 134 Bundesliga starts in a row, and there were even 153 in all competitive games. “It’s an outstanding performance, it also has to do with his personality, he didn’t get anything for free,” said Streich. “He has good genes and prepares for games professionally.”
