Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) – A World War II bomb has been defused in Karlsruhe. According to the police, experts from the explosive ordnance disposal service rendered the 500-kilogram bomb from World War II harmless on Tuesday. The closures were lifted and people were able to return to their homes.
The bomb was found on Monday at a construction site near the freight yard. A number of roads were closed, including the busy federal highway 10. Rail traffic was also affected, such as long-distance trains from Mannheim and Heidelberg to Karlsruhe and trains from Stuttgart to Karlsruhe. Around 4,000 people had to temporarily leave their homes because of the defusing.
