Salzburg (dpa / lby) – A 20 meter high beech tree weighing around 20 tons fell on an elementary school in Salzburg. No one was injured, also because school had not started early Monday morning, the city information center said, according to the APA. The deciduous tree damaged the roof of an extension.
The professional fire brigade and the garden office see the reason for the uprooting in the heavy rains of the past few days. These had softened the ground so that the beech was no longer firmly rooted and it was knocked over by the wind.
The school for the 230 students should still take place. The city administration in Salzburg now wants to check all the trees in the city area for their stability.
